I am interested in the cause of intracrustal volcanism, and how the relationship between magmatism and tectonics can be understood by a combination of field, geochronological, and geochemical studies, particularly in extensional environments. For my dissertation, I am addressing how large magnitude Miocene crustal extension is related to abundant pre-, syn-, and post- extensional volcanism in the vicinity of the Whipple Mountains in the Lower Colorado River Extensional Corridor. Field and analytical techniques employed include geologic mapping, structural analysis, 40Ar/39Ar geochronology, U/Pb geochronology, trace element geochemistry, and isotope geochemistry (Hf, Rb-Sr).
